Mediation

Is anyone in your organization having difficulty resolving a work-related dispute? If so, mediation could help.

What is it?

Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).  It can save you:

  • Money

  • Time,

  • Stress – and even

  • Valuable relationships.

Some connections are beyond repair, so the best possible outcome is for people to go their separate ways peacefully.   In others – especially when you take positive action earlier - reopening lines of communication can kickstart the process of rebuilding trust.  That could save you, for example, the money, time and effort you’ve invested in a team member – which is generally lost if you end up at tribunal.

Some cases need to go to court/tribunal; but Our adversarial system inevitably produces a win/lose outcome.  A successful mediation can achieve a win/win result.

Who is it for?

Anyone involved in a disagreement over a specific issue or set of issues can potentially benefit from mediation, but it can be a challenging experience.  So it works best when everyone is:

  • At the table voluntarily,

  • Open to the process and

  • Willing to give it a chance to help them find solutions.

How does it work?

It’s a conversation or series of conversations, in person or online, between those involved in the dispute, facilitated by an independent third party.

The mediator’s job isn’t to take sides, or hand down judgment.  It’s to help everyone:

  • Listen to each other carefully,

  • Talk to each other constructively and

  • Collaborate to find a way forward which everybody can work with.
